Dior (Nasdaq: DIOD) announced the launch of APK43070Q, a highly integrated, automotive standard synchronous buck controller with integrated USB Type-C ® PD3.1 source controller. This integration reduces the number of external components, lowers the Bill of Materials (BOM) cost, and simplifies the design of high-power USB Type-C charging ports. Typical applications include single port and multi port USB Type-C charging modules for vehicles.
The device operates within an input voltage range of 4V to 36V and supports USB PD3.1 Extended Power Range (EPR) and up to 28V Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS), as well as Standard Power Range (SPR) and up to 21V Programmable Power Supply (PPS). These features enable the USB Type-C charging port to provide up to 140W of power.
The constant frequency synchronous buck controller has high driving strength, optimized dead time, and higher gate driving voltage, enabling it to achieve medium to high power and efficient charging in conjunction with external N-channel MOSFETs. This allows designers to choose MOSFETs that can optimize efficiency and thermal performance. To further improve the energy efficiency of the converter, the device supports VIN DC through mode. This architecture allows high side MOSFETs to serve as VBUS switches without the need for additional output switches, thereby further reducing system costs.
APK43070Q integrates I2C interface and controller/target addressing scheme. This enables up to eight USB Type-C ports to achieve intelligent power sharing through resistor selection, without the need for an external microcontroller (MCU), simplifying the system architecture of multi port charging platforms.
This device includes multiple protection functions to enhance reliability, including overvoltage, overcurrent, undervoltage, and over temperature protection,And connector humidity detection. The CC1/CC2 and DP/DN pins can withstand short circuits up to 30V to VBUS, Helps protect the impact of unexpected failures.
