Power Integrations launches TinySwitch-5 IC to assist in efficient power supply design

The fifth generation iconic switch IC product series can achieve up to 175W output power and 92% efficiency in a classic flyback architecture.
Atlanta, USA, APEC 2025， March 17, 2025- Power Integrations (NASDAQ stock code: POWI), a well-known company specializing in high-efficiency power conversion of high-voltage integrated circuits, announced today the launch of TinySwitch ™- 5. Expand the output power of the popular integrated offline switch IC product series to 175W. The new TinySwitch-5 adopts simple diode rectification and optocoupler feedback, with an efficiency of up to 92%.
TinySwitch ICs have sold over 6 billion units worldwide and are widely used as bias and auxiliary power supplies in home appliances, computing, communications, industrial, and medical applications. For a long time, designers have favored the simplicity and high efficiency of TinySwitch products, especially under light loads. TinySwitch IC is one of the first to adopt Power Integrations EcoSmart ™ Technical products. Since 1998, this award-winning technology has saved approximately 200 terawatt hours of electricity by significantly reducing standby power consumption.
The TinySwitch-5 switch IC features an advanced control engine that automatically adjusts switch frequency and power output, maximizing efficiency even under light load conditions. This enables the power supply to easily meet the 300mW light load power consumption limit specified in the European Commission's Energy Related Products (ErP) Directive 2009/125/EC, while still providing up to 220mW of output power for the display, control, and communication functions of the final product. The heat-resistant enhanced packaging means that the TinySwitch-5 IC can provide up to 75W of output power without the need for heat sinks, while input undervoltage and overvoltage protection ensure durability when used in countries and regions with unstable mains voltage.
