VelocityDRIVE software platform implements exchange management communication based on standardized YANG model
Driven by the demand for higher bandwidth, advanced features, stronger security, and standardization, automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are transitioning to Ethernet solutions. Automotive Ethernet provides the necessary infrastructure to support Software Defined Networking through centralized control, flexible configuration, and real-time data transmission. In order to provide comprehensive Ethernet solutions to OEM manufacturers, Microchip Technology Inc. announced today the launch of the new LAN969x series multi gigabit Ethernet switches and VelocityDRIVE ™ Software Platform (SP). This platform is a turnkey Ethernet switch chip software solution and configuration tool (CT) based on the standardized YANG model.
The LAN969x series, when combined with VelocityDRIVE SP, is the industry's first to integrate the CORECONF YANG model, providing an innovative industry standard network configuration solution. The CORECONF YANG standard aims to empower designers by separating software development from hardware network layers. This reduces complexity and cost, and accelerates product time to market.
The high-performance LAN969x Ethernet switching chip adopts a 1 GHz single core Arm ® The Cortex-A53 CPU has multi gigabit capabilities and can expand bandwidth from 46 Gbps to 102 Gbps. The Advanced Time Sensitive Network (TSN) aims to meet the precise timing and reliability requirements of applications such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Charlie Forni, Vice President of USB and Networking at Microchip, said, "The launch of the VelocityDRIVE software platform provides our automotive customers with a turnkey software exchange solution and configuration tool that enables easy management of in vehicle Ethernet networks. It uses a standardized YANG configuration protocol, allows for independent software development, and can be reused on multiple vendor Ethernet exchange chips
The LAN969x series switch chip supports ASIL B functional safety and AEC-Q100 automotive certification standards, providing high reliability and safety for automotive applications. These devices are optimized for systems with small embedded memory space, featuring safe and fast boot functionality, and use integrated ECC SRAM to execute code without the need for expensive external DDR memory.
With the continuous development of in vehicle networks, software solutions such as VelocityDRIVE SP are essential for customers to configure and manage their network systems. The LAN969x series switch chip supports Microchip's vehicle Ethernet solution product portfolio, which includes 10 Mbps to 1000 Mbps PHY transceivers, controllers, switch chips, and endpoints.
