STMicroelectronics launches STM32 microprocessor specific high integration power management chip
2024-10-21
Optimized integrated power management chip with built-in protection function, driving MPU and peripherals

STMicroelectronics STM32MP2 microprocessor with power management chip STPMIC25 is now available on the market. The new product is equipped with 16 output channels in a convenient package, which can supply power to all power rails and system peripherals of the MPU. Only a small number of external filtering and stabilization functional components are required to complete the hardware design. The evaluation board STEVAL-PMIC25V1 is now available, and developers can start developing applications immediately.

The new power management chip includes seven DC/DC buck converters and eight low dropout (LDO) regulators, as well as an additional LDO regulator to provide reference voltage (Vref) for the DDR3 and DDR4 DRAM systems. Among the eight LDO regulators, there is a 3.3V channel dedicated regulator used to power USB high-speed and Type-C PHY ICs, as well as a universal LDO regulator that can be assigned to power circuits such as memory card interfaces and Ethernet ports.

The buck converter has been optimized to provide power to the CPU, core circuitry, GPU, I/O, and analog power domains of the MPU, and has additional channels and general auxiliary outputs for powering DDR RAM. The converter adopts fast transient response and low ripple design, suitable for various working conditions, and can meet the specific requirements of the MPU power domain. All converters adopt adaptive constant on-time control to achieve high energy efficiency, and use spread spectrum frequency modulation, phase shift switching, and advanced synchronization technology to minimize EMI interference. In addition, each converter has high and low power consumption operating modes, which can be controlled by application software to enable the host system to minimize the static current of the converter and improve energy efficiency. All buck converters and LDOs can be independently enabled and disabled.

STPMIC25 has been put into production, using a 6.5mm x 6.5mm 56 pin WFQFN package with a thickness of only 0.9mm. The STEVAL-PMIC25V1 circuit board can be purchased on eSTore or through agents.
