STMicroelectronics releases intelligent eFuses for vehicles, improving design flexibility and functional safety
2024-06-28
STMicroelectronics has started mass production of a new series of automotive high side power switching tubes. The new product adopts STMicroelectronics' proprietary intelligent fuse protection function and supports SPI digital interface, improving design flexibility and functional safety.
The four channel VNF9Q20F is the first product of a new series of power switches developed by STi2Fuse Semiconductor using advanced single crystal VIPower M0-9 MOSFET technology and integrated with STi2Fuse patented technology. The STi2Fuse product is based on I2t (current squared through time to fuse) patented technology, detects overcurrent, supports fast response within 100 µ s, and turns off MOSFET power switches.
VNF9Q20F is used as an intelligent circuit breaker to enhance voltage stability on the circuit board and prevent overheating of PCB circuit board wiring, connectors, and wiring harnesses. In order to prevent destructive overload, the new power switch of STMicroelectronics also supports capacitor charging mode, allowing for the presence of harmless surge currents, thus enabling normal operation under high capacitor load conditions.
VNF9Q20F is suitable for the latest area control electrical/electronic architecture, and can also replace fuses and relays. ECU power distribution isolation supports power distribution management of the entire vehicle's electrical system during parking. Due to STi2Fuse's support for programmable configurations with 64 current limiting values, it provides designers with the flexibility of high-precision overload handling.
The chip integrates a 10 bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and fault register, providing rich diagnostic information and digital current detection feedback to support vehicle related functions, such as predictive maintenance. VNF9Q20F provides diagnostic data through SPI and has a built-in self check function, which can enable the system to meet the safety integrity level specified in ISO 26262. In the event of a malfunction or functional abnormality, the embedded fault safety mode can keep the system in working condition.
VNF9Q20F has now been mass-produced and is packaged in 6mm x 6mm QFN.
