Infineon launches a new 600 V CoolMOS S7TA MOSFET with integrated high-precision temperature sensors
2024-06-25
Infineon Technologies Inc. (FSE code: IFX/OTC QX code: IFNNY), a semiconductor leader in the global power systems and IoT fields, recently launched a 600 V CoolMOS suitable for automotive power management applications ™ S7TA super junction MOSFET. S7TA is designed specifically to meet the special requirements of automotive electronic components, and its integrated temperature sensor is used in industrial applications of similar products (CoolMOS) ™ On the basis of the progress made by S7T, the accuracy of junction temperature sensing has been significantly improved, thus possessing advantages such as higher durability, safety, and efficiency that are crucial for the automotive industry.

Like industrial grade products in the same series, the vehicle grade CoolMOS ™ S7TA is particularly suitable for solid-state relay (SSR) applications. It has excellent RDS (on) and sensing accuracy, which is crucial for various automotive electronic devices that rely on efficient power management solutions. The integration of super junction MOSFETs and embedded temperature sensors in the same package improves the performance of solid-state relays, enabling reliable operation even under extremely severe overload conditions, which is necessary for automotive applications with extremely high reliability requirements.
Compared with independent onboard sensors, the embedded sensor accuracy of S7TA has increased by 40% and the response time has increased by four times. These advances in temperature monitoring have enabled separate monitoring of multiple device systems, thereby improving reliability and preventing heat dissipation issues that may cause system failures, which is crucial for automotive applications.

The optimized utilization of CoolMOS? S7TA power transistors not only ensures excellent performance, but also achieves precise control of the output stage. This precision is the key to reducing power consumption and energy costs, and it is also an urgent problem to be solved in automotive applications, as efficiency directly translates into the vehicle's range and operating economy. Compared with traditional electromechanical relays, the total power consumption of CoolMOS? S7TA has been significantly reduced.
CoolMOS? S7TA also improves the reliability of SSR by relying on a higher overcurrent threshold, reducing the likelihood of failure. This robust switch solution lays the foundation for improving the safety of in car operation, and MOSFETs with higher robustness extend the life cycle of automotive relays, thereby reducing maintenance and replacement costs.
600 V CoolMOS, a potential application that is crucial for the safety and functionality of modern automobiles ™ S7TA provides optimized solutions, such as circuit breakers (including high-voltage battery isolation switches, DC and AC low-frequency switches), and key components such as high-voltage electronic fuses (HV eFuses).
Infineon has also launched the EVAL_eFuse-PoC_400V-S7 concept validation board, showcasing the robustness and versatility of automotive electronic fuses, as well as reliable methods for protecting automotive electrical systems. It has interchangeable power levels and can adapt to various working conditions of different voltage levels and cooling methods.
Supply situation
Vehicle grade and industrial grade 600 V CoolMOS ™ S7T has been launched and is packaged in QDPAK TSC and BSC, with an RDS (on) range of 17 to 40 m Ω. The 10 m Ω model will be added to the product series in the second half of 2024. For more information, please visit www.Infineon. com/s7ta and www.Infineon. com/s7t.
