TDK launches a new anti stray field 3D magnetic position sensor with external signal processing capabilities
2024-06-06
HAL/HAR 3936-4100 is a high-precision, anti stray field Hall effect 3D position sensor with low power consumption function
This sensor provides the potential to read external digital signals (PWM and switches), which can be transmitted together with magnetic position information through the SENT interface
The main target application scenarios are anti clutter steering column switches, shifters, and alternative devices similar to joysticks

TDK Corporation (TSE: 6762) has further expanded its renowned Micronas 3D HAL by utilizing the latest member of its extraordinary Hall Effect 3D position sensor product line, HAL/HAR 3936 * ®  Position sensor series. HAL/HAR 3936 is a significant advancement in magnetic field processing technology aimed at meeting the demanding requirements of modern automotive and industrial application scenarios. HAL/HAR 3936 has multifunctional programming features and high precision, making it a potential solution for steering column switches, shifters, brake pedal position sensors, or brake travel sensors** Samples are now available. Planned to be put into low production in 2024.

HAL/HAR 3936 meets the industry's demand for robust 3D position sensors and compliance with ISO 26262 standards, providing reliable solutions for various application scenarios including steering column switches. The noteworthy features include a low-power mode that can save power and facilitate direct connection to the vehicle's battery to improve efficiency. In addition, the integrated SENT interface of the sensor can achieve seamless transmission of external digital signals, thereby enhancing its versatility in different operating environments.

HAL/HAR 3936 offers dual chip models HAR 3936-4100, aimed at providing enhanced redundancy and reliability. By utilizing a stacked chip architecture, this model ensures synchronous measurement of magnetic signals by occupying the same magnetic position. Therefore, it can provide high-resolution position measurement and meet the strict accuracy requirements of modern application scenarios.

With customer configurable PWM or SENT outputs, HAL/HAR 3936 can provide flexibility to meet various application requirements. In SENT mode, the sensor follows the SAE/J2716 Rev. 4 standard and has configurable parameters such as time indication and frame format. In addition, the sensor has two functional modes, namely application mode and low-power mode, which can be selected through input signals to optimize power consumption according to operational requirements.

In application mode, HAL/HAR 3936 performs excellently in measuring the 360 ° angle range, linear motion, and anti stray field 3D position information of magnets. The robust 3D mode with scattered fields, coupled with the potential to read external signals, provides unprecedented robustness for steering column switch detection. By utilizing Hall technology, this sensor can effectively suppress external stray magnetic fields, ensuring accurate measurement in any situation.

HAL/HAR 3936 complies with the ISO 26262:2018 standard for SEooC (independent safety unit) ASIL C-level, ensuring compatibility with ASIL D-level automotive safety requirements. This sensor is designed specifically for operation in harsh environments, operating perfectly within the temperature range of -40 ℃ to+150 ℃, suitable for automotive and industrial applications.

HAL/HAR 3936 offers SOIC8 SMD packaging as a single-chip device and SSOP16 SMD packaging for dual chip versions, providing a reliable and multifunctional solution for demanding 3D position sensing applications.
