The NORA-W4 single band Wi Fi 6 module combines reliability and economy, making it suitable for battery powered devices.
Recently, u-blox (SIX: UBXN), a leading global supplier of positioning and wireless communication technology and services, has released a new NORA-W4 module. The NORA-W4 fully integrates multiple wireless technologies (Wi Fi 6, Bluetooth LE 5.3, Thread, and Zigbee), adopts a compact package (10.4 x 14.3 x 1.9 mm), and is affordable, making it an ideal choice for IoT applications such as smart homes, asset tracking, healthcare, and industrial automation.
NORA-W4 is a single band three RF Wi Fi 6 module built on the Espressif ESP32-C6 SoC solution. The battery powered IoT nodes using NORA-W4 modules can communicate directly through Wi Fi, reducing the need for Bluetooth gateways, simplifying deployment processes, and reducing costs at the system level. Therefore, they are very suitable for applications such as battery powered wireless sensors.
NORA-W4 uses Wi Fi 6 technology optimized for IoT, which can significantly reduce network congestion in environments such as factories, workplaces, or warehouses, effectively improving throughput and reducing latency. This module is backward compatible with Wi Fi 4 and is also suitable for application environments where Wi Fi infrastructure has not yet been upgraded.
The u-blox NORA-W4 module supports the commonly used Matter protocol, Thread, and Zigbee technologies in various new smart home applications. Therefore, NORA-W4 also supports interoperability with other Matter smart home devices.
NORA-W4 adopts a compact packaging that is not easily limited by device size. This module is compatible with other u-blox NORA series modules, which facilitates future technology migration, such as transitioning from Wi Fi 4 to Wi Fi 6. In addition, the NORA-W4 module is equipped with enhanced security features, including secure boot, trusted execution environment, and flash encryption.
NORA-W4 offers 6 different models: open CPU or u-connectXpress model, antenna pin or PCB antenna model, and 4MB or 8MB flash memory model. NORA-W4 has started providing early samples and is scheduled for mass production in the second half of 2024.
