TDK introduces 1000 V and 1500 V high-voltage contactors for electric vehicles (xEVs), DC fast charging, and AI data center infrastructure

TDK Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange code: 6762) has launched the HVC28 and HVC29 series gas filled high-voltage DC contactors. These two series of components can be equipped with mechanical auxiliary contacts and both cover models with rated continuous currents of 300 A, 400 A, 500 A, and 600 A. Among them, HVC28 is mainly aimed at automotive systems with a maximum DC operating voltage of 1000 V and high short-circuit current requirements; HVC29 is designed specifically for industrial power systems with DC operating voltages up to 1500 V.

The continuous current capability of HVC28 can reach up to 600 A, withstand a short-circuit current of 16 kA for 5 ms, and pass the specified resistance load test. It can cut off a maximum DC current of 1600 A and a maximum DC voltage of 1000 V in a single action, making it particularly suitable for battery disconnect units, high-voltage junction boxes, main motor drive battery systems, commercial vehicles, and DC fast charging stations in electric vehicles (xEV).

HVC29 can handle working voltages up to 1500 V and continuous currents up to 600 A, and can withstand short-circuit currents of 6 kA for 5 ms. Typical industrial applications include energy storage systems, solid-state transformers, uninterruptible power supplies, and DC fast charging stations. These contactors also support the upcoming new generation 800 VDC power supply architecture for AI data centers.

Both series use gas filled ceramic arc extinguishing chambers, which can quickly and reliably cut off direct current. The non-polar main terminal design supports bidirectional conductivity, meeting the application requirements of bidirectional flow of electrical energy; Integrated connectors can simplify low-voltage connections and system installation.

If mechanical linkage feedback is required for the main contact status, normally closed mirror contacts can also be selected as needed. This auxiliary contact meets the IEC 60947-4-1 standard and can determine the open/close status of the main contact, supporting switch status monitoring applications in safety related automotive and industrial systems.
