LG Electronics introduces a dedicated turbine chiller for AI data centers, claiming a 30% reduction in annual power consumption

LG Electronics announced today the launch of a new air-cooled oil-free variable frequency turbo chiller, optimized for AI data centers to reduce power costs while meeting flexible expansion needs.
It is reported that the product is equipped with LG Electronics' self-developed oil-free magnetic levitation bearing technology. The rotating shaft can be suspended in the air through electromagnetic means, so there will be no mechanical friction loss, no need for oil circulation pumps and related pipeline equipment, and no decrease in cooling efficiency due to the formation of oil film inside the heat exchanger.
At the same time, the product applies natural refrigerant pre cooling technology, which can achieve cooling without the need for a compressor in winter environments. Specifically, during the operation of the chiller, compressors that account for more than 80% of the total electricity consumption will stop running and use the refrigerant condensed at low temperatures indoors to circulate and take away heat.
Compared with traditional pre cooling technology, this solution can reduce the annual power consumption of data centers by 30% and improve energy utilization. This product also has R-513A refrigerant, which has a global warming potential (GWP) increase of over 50% compared to R-134a refrigerant, meeting customers' ESG (environmental protection, social responsibility, corporate governance) requirements.
In addition, the product also has machine learning technology that can detect abnormal signs in advance to prevent sudden equipment shutdown. After restoring power, the device can also use ultra high speed restart technology to restore 100% rated cooling capacity within 180 seconds, providing protection for the AI server.
