Dior’s high-sensitivity Hall effect latch enhances position detection capability in automotive motor control systems

Dior (NASDAQ: DIOD) expands its AH371xQ series of automotive grade compliant Hall effect latches for motor control applications that require operation at extremely low magnetic thresholds and bipolar switching characteristics. The AH3711Q adopts a proprietary Hall board design for brushless direct current (BLDC) motor control, valve operation, linear and incremental rotary encoders, and position detection function. Vehicle applications include window lifting, sunroof operation, tailgate switch mechanism, seat adjustment motor, cooling fan, water/oil pump, and speed detection.

The magnetic operating point (BOP) and release point (BRP) of AH371xQ cover a range of ± 10 Gauss, providing greater layout flexibility. This ultra-high sensitivity enables it to detect weaker magnetic fields, allowing for the use of smaller and lower cost magnets, reducing system size, and lowering overall Bill of Materials (BOM) costs. Adequate magnetic margin can also significantly reduce the duty cycle, thereby reducing power consumption and extending battery life.

To enhance system reliability, Hall effect latches support a working voltage range of 3V to 27V. The device is equipped with a reverse blocking diode with a Zener clamp at the power supply end, and has overcurrent limiting and Zener clamp functions at the output end. This component combination can provide 40V load drop, reverse polarity, and short circuit protection. The wide input voltage range, coupled with HBM up to 8kV and CDM ESD level of 1kV, further enhances the reliability of the device in harsh environments.

The device also adopts a chopper stabilized design, which can minimize switch drift to the maximum extent within the full temperature range of -40 ° C to+150 ° C, and has high resistance to physical stress during PCB assembly. This can alleviate the impact of temperature changes and enhance the ability to resist stray fields. The typical power on time is 13 microseconds, which helps to avoid system level failures. Open drain output provides more flexible external pull-up options when the supply voltage is higher or lower.

The magnetic operation and release polarity of SOT23 (Type S) and SC59 packages are opposite. In operation, SOT23 (Type S) and SIP-3 (Bulk Pack) packages require the south pole to be connected to the marked side of the part, while SC59 requires the south pole to be connected to the non marked side.

There is also a standard compatible version AH3711, suitable for industrial and commercial applications.
