Infineon collaborates with Flex to launch regional controller development kit for software defined vehicles at CES 2026
2026-03-30
Infineon Technologies announced further cooperation with Flex to accelerate the development process of Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). At the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2026), the two parties will jointly launch a regional controller development kit - a modular solution designed for Regional Control Units (ZCUs) aimed at accelerating the development of electronic/electrical architectures for Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs Ready). This new kit features an extensible design and is built on reusable technological assets, integrating approximately 30 functionally independent building modules. This design enables developers to flexibly configure various ZCU solutions within a very short development cycle, while providing a clear path from concept to mass production.

In the next generation of electronic/electrical architecture, ZCU is responsible for connecting and driving a large variety of peripheral devices. Due to differences in peripheral device configurations among different automotive platforms and models, their requirements for ZCU vary. However, existing ZCUs often fail to optimize for specific automotive application scenarios or vehicle platforms.

With the modular design concept of this development kit, developers can flexibly adjust the design scale to meet the diverse application needs of the current market, while reserving space for future vehicle expansion, which not only reduces the Bill of Materials (BOM) cost but also shortens the development cycle. Through this design platform, automobile manufacturers (OEMs) can construct over 50 distribution channels, 40 connection channels, and 10 load control channels for rapid assessment and early application development. For high-end ZCU applications that require high I/O density and powerful computing power, this kit provides dual MCU plug-in modules. This flexibility allows customers to start with a complete solution and then optimize for dual economy MCU configuration or single MCU configuration based on functional requirements and budget requirements. This solution aligns with the core philosophy of the platform - starting from a complete solution, reducing costs by streamlining components while ensuring product quality and development progress are not affected.

The regional controller development kit jointly launched by Infineon and Flex supports all core regional control functions, including I2t (Ampere Square Second) protection, overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, capacitor load switch, reverse polarity protection, secure data transmission based on hardware accelerators, A/B switching to support software remote online (OTA) upgrades, and network security protection. Pre validation hardware integrates Infineon's leading automotive semiconductor devices, including AURIX ™ Series of microcontrollers OPTIREG ™ Power supply PROFET ™ And SPOC ™ Intelligent power switch MOTIX ™ Motor control solutions, etc., combined with Flex's design, integration, and industrialization expertise. The software stack, on the other hand, benefits from the contribution of Vector, fully utilizing its widely used tools and expertise in embedded software, testing, and integration fields.
