ROHM开发出搭载VCSEL的高速高精度接近传感器“RPR-0730”
2025-11-06
ROHM, a globally renowned semiconductor manufacturer headquartered in Kyoto, Japan, announced today the development of a small, high-precision proximity sensor called "RPR-0730" that can detect high-speed moving objects. This product is widely used in consumer electronics and industrial equipment applications, including label printers and conveyors.
With the development of industrial and office equipment towards higher performance, more functions, and intelligence, higher requirements have been put forward for the accuracy improvement of sensing technology, especially for applications such as label printers, sample conveyors, and copiers. In addition to improving speed through optimizing production processes, it is also necessary to have technology that can more accurately identify target objects. Therefore, introducing high-speed and high-precision proximity sensors has become crucial. To meet these demands, ROHM has launched the analog proximity sensor "RPR-0730", which uses VCSEL as the light-emitting element and phototransistor as the light receiving element. This product can quickly and accurately sense fine targets that are difficult to recognize with traditional LED light sources.
RPR-0730 "is a reflective small proximity sensor (reflective photoelectric sensor * 1). By using infrared VCSEL * 2, which has better directionality than LED, as the light-emitting element, detection of finer targets has been achieved. In addition, by using a phototransistor with analog output function * 3 as the light receiving element, a high-speed response performance of 10 microseconds (µ s) is achieved. By combining these two advantages, it is possible to quickly and accurately identify fine wire bodies with a width of 0.1mm that are difficult to detect with traditional LED light sources. As a new member of the "RPR-0720" series of digital output products, this product has a wider range of applications, including print detection for copiers and label printers, rotation detection for motors and gears, and other applications that require higher speed sensing.
The packaging size of the new product is very small, only 2.0mm × 1.0mm × 0.55mm, and it uses visible light cut-off filter resin, which can effectively suppress the influence of interference light such as lighting and sunlight. Therefore, even in places with variable lighting environments such as factories and outdoors, stable testing can still be achieved. In addition, this product can also be easily installed in equipment that needs to be installed in small spaces, such as inside conveying devices and precision instruments, making its application range more extensive.
The new product has started mass production in October 2025 (sample price 350 yen/piece, excluding tax). In addition, the new product has also started e-commerce sales.
In the future, ROHM will leverage the development technology advantages of light-emitting and light receiving components to continue developing sensing products that meet customer needs, helping various devices improve convenience and achieve miniaturization.

*1) Reflective photoelectric sensor
A light sensor that combines a light emitting element and a light receiving element. By illuminating the target object with light and detecting its reflected light intensity, the presence or absence of the object or the measurement distance can be determined.
*2) VCSEL
The abbreviation for Vertical Chamber Surface Emitting Laser. A type of laser source is a semiconductor laser that can directly emit light from the surface. Compared to LED, it has better directionality and is suitable for high-precision sensing applications. Initially used in the field of optical communication, it has also been increasingly used as a light source for proximity sensors and distance sensors in recent years.
*3) Phototransistor
A transistor type photoelectric conversion device that converts optical signals into electrical signals. Integrating a photodiode and a transistor, controlling the base current through light and outputting an amplified collector current.
