Murata releases the first high-frequency filter equipped with XBAR technology
2025-07-10
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Murata") announced the official release of Murata's first high-frequency filter (1) using XBAR technology (2), and has started mass production. This product combines Resonant's XBAR technology (which Murata acquired in 2022) with Murata's proprietary filter technology (SAW). In the high-frequency band above 3GHz, this product can detect the desired signal with low loss and eliminate interference signals from adjacent frequency bands (3). It is mainly used in various devices with wireless communication functions, such as smartphones, wearable electronics, laptops, and gateways.
Explanatory note
(1) The data is based on Murata's research results, as of July 7, 2025.
(2) XBAR technology: This technology is Murata's proprietary technology in the field of filters, which uses comb shaped electrodes and piezoelectric single crystal films to excite bulk acoustic waves.
(3) Adjacent frequency band: a frequency band that has not been adopted by a specific communication wireless standard.
In recent years, with the continuous development of mobile communication systems such as 5G and 6G, as well as the launch of wireless LAN standards such as Wi Fi 6E and Wi Fi 7, the demand for ultra high speed and high-capacity communication in the market has rapidly increased. These communication technologies use high-frequency bands above 3GHz and typically rely on low-temperature co fired ceramic (LTCC) filters or bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filters to extract the required signals. However, LTCC filters and traditional BAW filters have always faced some challenges in high-frequency applications, such as insufficient attenuation, which can easily lead to ineffective filtering of useless signals in adjacent frequency bands, resulting in noise.
The product launched by Murata combines Resonant's XBAR technology with Murata's proprietary technology, which still has high attenuation capability even in the frequency band above 3GHz, effectively suppressing the generation of noise. At the same time, it also supports the key requirements of high-frequency communication - low loss and high bandwidth, providing strong support for achieving high-speed, high-capacity, and high-quality wireless communication.
XBAR technology can also achieve high attenuation, low loss, and large bandwidth in the ultra-high frequency band above 10GHz, which are the target frequency bands for 6G communication. Murata will continue to develop high-frequency filter components that can meet market demand, thereby contributing to the development of high-performance, multifunctional wireless communication technology.
