Chip level packaged IC, using ST proprietary technology, helps achieve one-time success in RF performance design of micro ultra-low power IoT devices
STMicroelectronics has released a series of antenna matching chips that are compatible with the wireless microcontroller (MCU) STM32WL33 to simplify the development of IoT, smart meters, and remote monitoring applications.
The new series of products MLPF-WL-01D3/02D3/04D3IC adopts STMicroelectronics' proprietary Integrated Passive Device (IPD) technology, which integrates impedance matching and harmonic filtering functions on a glass substrate to optimize the performance of the main RF transceiver. These highly integrated devices are meticulously designed and packaged in very compact sizes, ensuring a one-time success while saving development time, material costs, and circuit board space.
The new device integrates antenna protection function, significantly simplifying the RF connection of MCU. In addition to ensuring optimal RF performance, the matched filtering two in one solution replaces multiple discrete components, improves application reliability, and reduces overall costs.
The new series has launched a total of seven products, and designers can choose suitable products for high-frequency (826-958MHz) or low-frequency (413-479MHz), high-power (16dBm/20dBm) or low-power (10dBm) RF services, as well as four or two-layer PCB board design applications to optimize performance. The non-conductive glass substrate ensures excellent RF performance, minimal temperature drift, and compact chip level packaging size. After reflow soldering, the size is only 1.47mm x 1.87mm and the height is only 630 µ m.
The communication frequency band of STMicroelectronics STM32WL33 wireless MCU's long-distance Sub GHz RF transceiver is the unlicensed frequency band of 413-479MHz or 826-958MHz. Under local regulations, the maximum output power can reach 20dBm. These highly integrated wireless MCUs are equipped with Arm ® Cortex ®- M0+core, on-chip integration of some peripherals, can simplify the design of remote monitoring equipment for smart cities, smart agriculture, and smart industry. The target applications include smart meters, security systems, asset trackers, and proximity detection. In addition, the STM32WL33 MCU RF reference design (STDES-WL3xxxx), which has been pre certified and optimized, is now available on the market.
The MLPF-WL-0xD3 antenna matching device adopts a 5-bump CSPG chip level package and has entered the mass production stage. For more information, please visit www.st.com/rf-filter-for-stm32wl33
