Only 6 external components are needed to achieve over 90% conversion efficiency
STMicroelectronics' new miniature single-chip buck converter DCP3601 integrates a large number of functions, providing higher design flexibility, simplifying application design, and reducing bill of materials costs. This chip has a built-in power switch and compensation circuit, which constructs a complete output voltage setting circuit, requiring only six external components including inductors, bootstrap capacitors, filtering capacitors, feedback resistors, etc.
With a wide input voltage range of 3.3V to 36V and an output current of 1A, DCP3601 can provide power to low-voltage loads in devices such as smart meters, household appliances, and 24V industrial bus converters. Synchronous rectification technology and a fixed switching frequency of 1MHz enable the converter to maintain excellent energy efficiency under various operating conditions within the load range. With a 12V input current and a 5V 600mA output current, the conversion efficiency reaches 91%.
The design flexibility comes from a wide range of product options. The low-noise version provides PWM forced mode for noise sensitive applications, while the low-power version can automatically enter pulse skipping mode during light loads to optimize power consumption. Both product models have frequency jitter technology to reduce noise power at a switching frequency of 1MHz. The static current of all products in the series is very low, only 110 μ A, and equipped with enable pins that can use dedicated signals to turn off the converter, further improving the energy-saving effect.
The STEVAL-3601CV1 evaluation board can quickly initiate DCP3601 application development projects, with bolted connectors and pin sockets, suitable for unboxing machines, and adopts a compact and efficient circuit design.
DCP3601 is the first product of the new series of buck converter chips, and further products will be launched this year. DCP3601 has been included in STMicroelectronics' 10-year long-term supply plan, and customers will receive long-term supply and technical support guarantees. This single-chip buck converter adopts a 3mm × 1.6mm SOT23 6-pin package.
