Infineon launches CoolGaN G3 transistor with new silicon package, promoting industry wide standardization process
2025-02-27
Gallium nitride (GaN) technology plays a crucial role in improving the performance level of power electronic devices. But so far, GaN suppliers have adopted packaging types and sizes that vary greatly, and their products are very scattered. Customers lack a source of goods that are compatible with multiple packaging options. To address this issue, Infineon Technologies Inc. (FSE code: IFX/OTCQX code: IFNNY), a global semiconductor leader in power systems, automotive, and IoT, has launched CoolGaN packaged in RQFN 5x6 ™  G3 100V (IGD015S10S1) and CoolGaN packaged with RQFN 3.3x3.3 ™  G3 80V (IGE033S08S1) high-performance GaN transistor.
CoolGaN ™  G3 100V transistor combined with WRTFN-9-2
Dr. Antoine Jalabert, Head of Infineon Technologies' Medium Voltage Gallium Nitride Product Line, said, "These two new devices are compatible with industry standard silicon MOSFET packaging, meeting customers' needs for standardized packaging, easier handling, and faster product launch speed.

CoolGaN ™  The G3 100V transistor device will be packaged in 5x6 RQFN, with a typical on resistance of 1.1 m Ω; CoolGaN ™  The G3 80V will be packaged in a 3.3x3.3 RQFN with a typical resistance of 2.3 m Ω. The packaging of these two transistors allows customers to adopt a simple multi-source procurement strategy and form complementary layouts with silicon-based designs for the first time. The low resistance connection and low parasitic effects brought by the new packaging combined with GaN can achieve high-performance transistor output in common packaging.

In addition, this chip and packaging combination has a larger exposed surface area and higher copper density, which enables better distribution and dissipation of heat, thus not only improving thermal conductivity but also having high thermal cycling stability.

Supply situation

Samples of IGE033S08S1 and IGD015S10S1 GaN transistors packaged in RQFN will be available starting from April 2025. For more information, please click here.
