Microchip launches new turnkey capacitive touch controller product MTCH2120
2024-12-21
This touch controller is designed to integrate with a comprehensive tool ecosystem to simplify the development process and accelerate product launch
A turnkey touch controller is a quick and easy way to upgrade mechanical buttons to modern touch buttons or displays. With the launch of the 12 button MTCH2120 touch controller, Microchip Technology Inc. provides designers with a direct way to implement touch button functionality on the user interface. This low-power, water-resistant turnkey touch device integrates Microchip's unified ecosystem, making the design process simpler and facilitating the transition between other turnkey solutions and MCU based touch implementations. MTCH2120 is the first product in the I2C based touch controller series, supporting a comprehensive design ecosystem.
MTCH2120 provides a stable touch experience that is not affected by noise events and humidity, while also having high flexibility to meet the requirements of individual products. The low-power function can group buttons to reduce scanning activity and lower power consumption, while keeping the buttons fully operational.
The functions and ecosystem of MTCH2120 include:
The Easy Tune function can automatically adjust sensitivity and filter levels based on real-time noise assessment, without the need for tedious threshold adjustments
• An MPLAB ® Harmony host code configurator plugin, no need to implement I2C protocol on the host, can directly connect Microchip MCU and MPU
Design validation through MPLAB data visualization tool
I2C port extender function
• Accessing Microchip's touch library and being compatible with it minimizes the need for designers to handle complex software engineering and firmware, helping to shorten the design cycle
MTCH2120 evaluation board, onboard SAM C21 main MCU, can be immediately integrated into prototype design
Rodger Richey, Vice President of Development Systems and University Programs at Microchip, stated that MTCH2120 combines decades of touch experience with Microchip's comprehensive support and development tool ecosystem to provide an advanced touch experience that is easy to use. This is a win-win solution. Developers can achieve the highest level of touch robustness and great design flexibility without the need for tedious adjustments or programming.
MTCH2120 is the first product in Microchip's MTCH series to use I2C, and the recently released MTCH1010, MTCH1030, and MTCH1060 also have the same powerful touch performance and simple GPIO interface. The MTCH2XXX series will add more solutions with bus control flexibility, making the usability provided by the design ecosystem applicable to more markets.
