Infineon releases a new generation of CoolGaN transistor series manufactured using 8-inch wafer foundry technology

Infineon Technologies Inc. (FSE code: IFX/OTCQX code: IFNNY) recently launched a new generation of High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) CoolGaNTM semiconductor device series. This enables customers to expand the application range of gallium nitride (GaN) to voltages ranging from 40 V to 700 V, further driving digitalization and low-carbon processes. In Curin, Malaysia and Filach, Austria, these two product lines are manufactured using Infineon's independently developed high-performance 8-inch wafer process. Infineon will expand the advantages and production capacity of CoolGaNTM based on this, ensuring the stability of its supply chain in the GaN device market. According to Yole Group's forecast, the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of the GaN device market will reach 46% in the next five years.

The all-new 650 V G5 series is suitable for applications in consumer, data center, industrial, and solar energy fields. This series of products is Infineon's new generation of high-voltage products based on GIT. Another new series manufactured using an 8-inch process is the G3 medium voltage device, which covers CoolGaNTM transistor voltage levels of 60 V, 80 V, 100 V, and 120 V, as well as 40 V bidirectional switching (BDS) devices. G3 medium voltage products are mainly aimed at motor drives, telecommunications, data centers, solar energy, and consumer applications.
Supply situation
The CoolGaNTM 650 V G5 will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2024, and the CoolGaNTM G3 medium voltage product will be launched in the third quarter of 2024. The samples have now started to be supplied. For more information, please click here.
