The target applications include power supply for telecommunications equipment, servers, and smart meters, as well as LED headlights or low-voltage DC/DC converters for automobiles

STMicroelectronics has launched a 100V trench Schottky rectifier diode that can improve the energy efficiency of high switching frequency power converters.
With the widespread application of technologies such as wide bandgap semiconductors with low switching losses, designers have begun to increase the operating frequency of power converters and continuously refresh the power density. However, as the switching frequency increases, the energy loss of traditional planar diodes (including silicon Schottky devices) used as rectifiers also increases, severely limiting the improvement of conversion energy efficiency.
ST's groove Schottky diode can significantly reduce the energy loss of the rectifier, with excellent forward voltage and reverse recovery characteristics, which can improve energy efficiency while increasing power density. The forward voltage is 50-100mV higher than that of similar planar diodes, and the specific value depends on the current and temperature conditions. By simply switching to these devices, energy efficiency can be improved by 0.5%.

The new series has a total of 28 products, with rated currents ranging from 1A to 15A, divided into eight levels. The packaging adopts various surface mount methods, and the application range is divided into two categories: industrial grade and automotive grade. The target applications of industrial grade products include small switch mode power supplies and auxiliary power supplies for telecommunications equipment, servers, and intelligent metering equipment. The typical use of automotive grade is for space limited automotive systems, such as LED headlights, reverse polarity protection, and low-voltage DC/DC converters. Automotive grade products have passed AEC-Q101 standard certification, production facilities comply with PPAP specifications, and operating temperature ranges from -40 ° C to 175 ° C.

When used in conjunction with the flyback power converter and step-down boost converter of STMicroelectronics, such as VIPer controller and HVLED001A offline LED driver, 100V trench Schottky rectifier can meet the requirements of the active component bill of materials for switch mode power supplies. The eDesign Suite Rectifier Diodes Simulator software tool from STMicroelectronics supports a new range of products, helping designers choose rated current and packaging, simulate current and voltage waveforms, and estimate energy efficiency.

The new diode undergoes 100% avalanche testing during the production process to ensure good robustness and system reliability of the device. The packaging adopts DPAK, SOD123 Flat, SOD128 Flat, SMB Flat, and PSMC (TO227A) surface mount.

The entire series of products has now been put into production. For more information, visit www.st.com/100v trend chottky.
