The newly launched eight way high side switch by STMicroelectronics combines intelligent functions and design flexibility. The conduction resistance RDS (on) of each channel (typical value) is only 110m Ω, which protects the energy efficiency of the system, compact size, and saves PCB space.

The 0.7A IPS8200HQ and 1.0A IPS8200HQ-1 can control capacitive, resistive, or inductive loads, with one side grounded and a working voltage of 10.5V-36V. They are compatible with 3.3V/5V logic inputs and are used for programmable logic controllers (PLC), distributed I/O, industrial PC peripherals, and computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools. In addition, each switch can be connected to the main controller through a serial interface (SPI) or parallel interface, bringing higher system design flexibility.

Both switches integrate device protection functions and indicate voltage status through dedicated diagnostic pins to assist intelligent system management and operation. The safety protection functions include overload (OVL) protection for each channel output, node overheating (OVT) protection, short circuit protection, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and automatic shutdown function for ground disconnection. The diagnostic output can indicate normal power supply voltage, overheating of the casing, SPI fault, and overheating of the junction.

In addition, both devices are integrated with LED drivers to indicate the working status of each output channel. A 100mA embedded DC/DC voltage regulator supplies power to LED drivers, SPI logic, and input circuits, and can also be used for external components such as optocouplers or digital isolators.

The two switches comply with the provisions of the IEC 61000-4 technical standard regarding ESD electrostatic discharge, burst and surge immunity, and are suitable for equipment that must comply with the functional and EMC requirements of the IEC 61131-2 standard for industrial control.

IPS8200HQ and IPS8200HQ-1 have been put into production, using 8mm x 6mm DFN48 packaging.

STMicroelectronics also offers two industrial grade digital output expansion cards to help developers evaluate the functionality of high edge switches.
