The strong earthquake in Japan has affected Toshiba, Murata, and Koei, causing some factories to suspend production and resume operations

On January 1st, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake occurred in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, triggering a tsunami. As of January 2nd, it has caused 55 deaths, affecting transportation, manufacturing, service industries, and disrupting supply chains. Toshiba, Murata, and Koei semiconductor factories in the semiconductor industry chain have been affected, while transportation and logistics industries have been disrupted.
Toshiba announced on January 2nd that it has ceased production at a subsidiary, Kaga Toshiba Electronics, which is the main production center for Toshiba power semiconductors. Toshiba stated that it has not yet decided when to restart the factory. On January 2nd, Murata Production stated that the company is evaluating the damage to two infrastructure areas near the epicenter to ensure the safety of workers. The company holds approximately 40% of the global market share in the MLCC multi-layer ceramic field. Chip equipment manufacturer Kokusai Electric has announced that its factory in Toyama has been found damaged and is further investigating, with plans to resume operations on Thursday (January 4th).
