RECOM Launches High Performance R-78Kxx Switching Regulator
2023-03-20
The R-78E series three-terminal switching regulator has been a widely popular and efficient alternative to the TO-220 three-terminal linear regulator, saving energy, circuit board space, and cost by eliminating heat sinks and assembly costs. In 2023, RECOM launched an upgraded version of the series and named it R-78Kxx, improving its original specifications.

The versions have ratings of 0.5A, 1A, and 2A, providing 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, and 6.5V outputs depending on the model, as well as traditional outputs of 3.3V, 5V, 9V, 12V, and 15V. The input voltage range has been expanded to 36V, and the peak efficiency has been increased to 96%. Therefore, all models can operate at temperatures up to 90 ° C, most of which do not require derating.

All R-78K series models have short circuit protection features such as undervoltage lockout and automatic recovery, and require only a simple input filter to meet the EMC standard EN 55032 Class B specification. The versions with a rated current of 0.5A and 1A use a SIP 3 micro package, with a footprint of 11.5 x 7.55mm and a height of 10.2mm; The 2A version is 11.5 x 8.5 mm, 17.5 mm high, and also packaged in a SIP 3 package.
