SMT assembly: optimize the use of circuit boards

Small electronic components are assembled on the circuit board using surface mount technology (SMT). Compared with the previous methods, this technology does not require complicated drilling for wiring, so it can not only install more and smaller components on the circuit board, but also install them below the circuit board. Manufacturers use fully automatic processes such as reflow soldering to ensure that passive components, microcontrollers or voltage regulators are securely fixed on the circuit board.

In this process, the glue has been coated on the circuit board before assembly and heating. This is accomplished by a dispensing machine or the like similar to that used in an inkjet printer. The high-speed coating machine can now dispense 100000 times per hour. With accurate positioning, smaller dispensing diameter and faster dispensing speed, they are widely used in the semiconductor manufacturing field and can be used as a flexible alternative to solder paste printing machines.

Liquid level monitoring in limited space

Turck installed a liquid level monitoring system in the limited space of the user's high-speed dispensing system. In order to prevent accidental shutdown and reduce the loss of rubber as low as possible, employees must be notified when the liquid level of the rubber cylinder reaches a critical level. This is particularly difficult to achieve considering that the elements of the production machine may be very small. Only a very small sensor that can detect different densities of glue can be used to monitor the liquid level of the rubber cylinder. The sensor also needs to withstand the violent vibration of the plastic layer separated by only 1 mm thick. Above the dispensing machine needle, the machine manufacturer now uses the Turk square design capacitive sensor (bc10-qf5.5), which is only 5.5 mm thick and has a rated working distance of 10 mm.

In order to use the dispensing head in parallel, the manufacturer can install two sensors in a very small space. The flexible adaptability of these capacitive switches is also impressive: customers can use potentiometers to fine calibrate the sensors according to the adhesive or glue used.

"This compact sensor not only enables us to overcome installation problems, but also enables us to quickly repair failures on site or respond according to changes in glue liquid". Finally, the sensor helps users avoid expensive adhesive or glue loss.

Small sensor with non-contact detection

For a manufacturer of dispensing, coating and packaging machines, it is critical to install sensors in a smaller installation space. The enterprise uses the compact Q08 capacitive sensor with a length of only 32mm fully customized by Turck for non-contact liquid level detection. The bright LED lamp can indicate the working voltage state or the switching state through different colors. Bc5-q08 also enables the user to directly detect the liquid level at the machine end, and output a switching signal to inform the equipment to fill liquid agent or rubber in real time when the rubber liquid is low.

High speed precision dispensing machine

The full-automatic high-speed precision dispensing machine is not limited to dispensing solder paste. For example, many different types of adhesives or encapsulating compounds can be applied using different dispensing machine valve bodies and dispensing heads. Some electronic components need special coatings, while others use resin polymers, which use the so-called underfill process to provide more stable fasteners on the circuit board. In addition, there is the difference between contact (small amount) or spray (high speed) dispensing.
