The device adopts a 4-pin LSOP thin package, with an isolation voltage of 5000 VRMS, insulation repetitive peak voltage of VIORM 1414 Vpeak, and insulation transient peak voltage of VIOTM 8000 Vpeak

Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE stock code: VSH) announced the launch of a new vehicle grade phototransistor optocoupler, VOLA617A, specifically designed for electric vehicles (EVs), including emerging 800 V battery architectures and high electrical isolation signal transmission for industrial automation systems. The Vishay Semiconductors VOLA617A adopts a 4-pin LSOP thin package, with a rated isolation voltage of 5000 VRMS, a maximum repetitive peak isolation voltage (VIORM) of 1414 Vpeak, and a maximum transient isolation voltage (VIOTM) of 8000 Vpeak.

The recently released devices are suitable for grid connected on-board chargers (OBC), DC/DC converters, battery management systems (BMS), isolated wake-up signals, and system control applications that require electrical and noise isolation. Many automotive grade optocouplers are unable to support battery voltages above 500 V, thus limiting themselves to traditional 400 V electric vehicle platforms. In contrast, VOLA617A is capable of isolating DC voltages up to 1000 V, making it suitable for the next-generation high-voltage electric vehicle architecture.

VOLA617A adopts a thin package, which includes infrared light-emitting diodes and silicon planar phototransistor detectors for optical coupling. Its creepage distance and electrical gap are not less than 8 mm. The device provides four current transfer ratio (CTR) ranges, with a collector emitter rated voltage of up to 80 V, giving greater design flexibility.

The working temperature range of the optocoupler is -40 ° C to+125 ° C, and the junction temperature can reach+145 ° C. It also has a low coupling capacitance of 0.5 pF and high common mode transient immunity. The VOLA617A adopts a sturdy and durable packaging, which not only meets the stringent requirements of automotive grade performance and reliability, but also complies with the AEC-Q102 dual certification, thus providing greater safety margin. The device complies with RoHS and Vishay green standards and is halogen-free.

VOLA617A can now provide samples and has achieved mass production, with a supply cycle of 8 weeks.
