Vishay 34 PHE Multi-Turn Absolute Position Sensor Achieves High Precision and Stability at Lower Cost
2026-07-06
This 10 turn device has a size of 7/8 inches, a linearity as low as ± 1%, a resolution of 1 °, and a lifespan of over 10 million cycles

Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE stock code: VSH) announced the launch of a new ready to use multi turn absolute position sensor, the 34 PHE, to meet the requirements for high precision and long-term stability in harsh environments. The Vishay Sfernice 34 PHE adopts non-contact Hall effect technology, with a size of 7/8 inches (22.2 mm), a linearity as low as ± 1% (full stroke), a resolution of 1 °, and a service life of over 10 million cycles.

The position sensor released this time supports linear or rotational displacement tracking, with a total electrical angle of 3600 ° for 10 turns, and a cost reduction of 40% compared to the previous generation product. With its high precision and resolution, 34 PHE has become a cost-effective and high-performance solution in servo loop motion control systems. This device can be applied to displacement tracking of industrial motors and actuators; Linear actuators for tracking solar panels; Positioning of flow control valve; And throttle and pedal position sensors in fields such as agricultural machinery, railway equipment, and ships.

In order to operate reliably in these harsh environments, 34 PHE has IP65 level sealing performance and can withstand high-frequency vibrations up to 20 g and impacts up to 50 g. The integrated reverse voltage and overvoltage input protection (-14 VDC and+28 VDC respectively) eliminates the need for external protection circuits, thereby reducing costs. This device can be configured with single or dual analog proportional output or digital (PWM) output signals. Dual output is used as a reverse tracking position sensor, providing built-in fault detection function to enhance safety, reliability, and meet functional safety standards. The integrated positioning pin on the mounting surface simplifies the installation process and also prevents rotation, thereby improving alignment accuracy and long-term stability.

As a "true power on, ready to use" device, the 34 PHE will immediately report its position upon power on, without the need for recalibration, reset, or initialization procedures - even after a power outage. This eliminates the need for backup batteries, further reducing costs. This device complies with RoHS standards and can be customized according to strict requirements. The operating voltage is 5 VDC ± 10%, and the typical operating current is less than 8.5 mA (single output). For both analog output and PWM output, it is recommended to have a load resistance of 1 k Ω.

34 PHE can now provide samples and has achieved mass production, with a supply cycle of 14 weeks.
