Infineon launches new EiceDriver for electric vehicle inverters ™ Gate drive improves power level utilization while reducing material list costs

Infineon Technologies has launched a new enhanced isolated gate drive IC product series designed specifically for pure electric vehicle (BEV) traction inverters: EiceDRIVE ™  1EDI3040AS and 1EDI3041AS. This series supports both IGBT and silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET, allowing specific power levels to release more available performance compared to common solutions on the market, and integrating rich functionality into a single gate driver IC. This helps OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers reduce the number of external components required and lower the Bill of Materials (BOM) cost for inverter control electronics.

New EiceDriver ™  The series integrates rich functions into a single gate driver IC, which allows specific power levels to release more available performance compared to common solutions on the market

Andreas Doll, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Intelligent Power Device Product Line at Infineon Technologies, said, "Infineon combines its deep technical accumulation in traction inverter systems with a differentiated product portfolio, providing solutions including OPTIREG ™ Power management IC, AURIX ™ Microcontrollers EiceDRIVER ™ Gate drive and power level HybridPACK ™  SiC module. With our profound professional knowledge and extensive product line, we are able to directly integrate key functions into gate drives, helping customers achieve more compact layouts and shorter design cycles while improving inverter efficiency and performance. ”

New EiceDriver ™ The series has multi-level pressure swing rate control function, which can achieve precise switch control in different driving situations such as acceleration and cruising. Compared to traditional solutions, inverter losses can be reduced by up to 35% in driving cycles such as WLTP. The dynamic boost mode can minimize the dead time to the greatest extent possible, further reducing losses and total harmonic distortion (THD). In addition, the 1EDI3040AS model integrates a closed-loop flyback controller with a voltage stabilization accuracy of 2%, which can adjust the secondary power supply (VCC2) in real time. This enables designers to adjust the gate power supply according to different working conditions, thereby improving efficiency and performance, reducing the RDS (on) value of SiC, enhancing peak current capability, and further reducing the number of external components used.

Other features include desaturation protection with digital filtering (DESAT), which can achieve sub microsecond response time and support power device status monitoring. The integrated SPI interface supports configuration and diagnostic functions, and is supported by a 6-channel 11 bit ADC. The new series complies with the ISO 26262 ASIL-D standard and adopts the compact PG-LFDSO-36 package.

To accelerate the implementation of the plan, Infineon provides a comprehensive set of design resources, including safety documents, application instructions, simulation models, evaluation boards, configuration tools, supporting software, and application examples. As key components of Infineon's electric vehicle traction inverter system solution, these new drives help accelerate efficient and reliable power system design.
