TDK’s new ultra-thin printed coil will revolutionize wireless charging

TDK Co., Ltd. (tse:6762) has launched a thin printed coil to support the wireless charging of the next generation mobile devices. The product has been in mass production since May 2022.

The development of wct38466-n0e0sst101 product does not use the traditional photolithography exposure / etching technology, but combines the subversive process technology of TDK with the electroplating technology using the organic compound polypyrrole nano dispersion developed by Achilles Co., Ltd. Although the wireless charging coil is usually produced by winding method, this new method can use thick copper pattern to print the charging coil on the film. Coupled with the application of TDK proprietary magnetic materials, the coil thickness is reduced to 0.76 mm, about one fifth of the thickness of the traditional 3.8 mm diameter wound coil. In addition, the adoption of TDK's original optimal coil shape pattern also means that the new coil will cover a larger charging area, thus bringing greater convenience to users.

Wireless transmission of power to mobile devices such as smart phones is quite attractive. There is a demand for wireless charging in home, office, retail and automotive environments. The diameter of TDK coil is extremely thin, meeting the Qi standard widely adopted by the wireless charging alliance, which will open up new opportunities for wireless charging deployment. In addition, in the past, the wireless charging system needed to integrate three coils, but now only one coil is required, so as to realize the miniaturization of the system.
